Heilige Gerardus Majella

In 1906, the neo-Gothic Gerardus Majella church, designed by architect H. Kroes, was put into use. It was the first parish church in the Netherlands to be dedicated to this saint. The church consisted of a five-sided closed vaulted chancel and a two-bay long nave, with a wooden ceiling. On the roof was a roof turret with an eight-sided spire. The church soon proved to be too small.

Veenkerk

Late neo-Gothic church with tower. Klazienaveen-Noord received a wooden auxiliary church in 1902 at the insistence of the evangelist Willem Braak-Hekke from Emmer-Compascuum. In 1923 this church was replaced by a stone church. The initiative came from the evangelist Willem de Weerd, who was financially supported by the Scholten family. De Weerd himself contributed to the financing by making the revenues of his book "De domeneer van turfland" available for the construction of the church. The first stone was laid in June 1922; the church was consecrated in 1923.
