The exact period of the cemetery’s establishment is unknown. Given the cemetery appears on the Russian topographic map of 1860s. it can be inferred it was founded before that era. The oldest preserved tombstone dates to the late 19th century.

The Cathedral of the Holy Dormition, built in the second half of the 18th century, is an emblem of Cossack Baroque. It was the first stone cathedral in Poltava. The cathedral building is two-storey in the style of a Byzantine basilica, with three domes. About 10 years later, around 1780, the cathedral was rebuilt. Two more domes were added above the altar.
In 1860, the Jewish community in Nahirne (also known as Novogeorgievsk, Krylov, or Svetlovodsk which can refer to several neighbouring towns) numbered about 200 and maintained a synagogue in the town. The Jewish cemetery has a few remaining headstones, is fenced, and overgrown.
The exact period of the cemetery’s establishment is unknown. According to the Commission of Preservation of the Jewish Heritage, the cemetery was founded in the early 19th century. It can be found marked on a Russian map of the region from 1872, a German map from 1941, and the city plan from 2018.
