The Fethiye Mosque was built in 1430, right after the Ottoman conquest of the city. The first mosque building was made of wood. It was replaced by the current stone building in 1611. The mosque was renovated in 1795 by ruler Ali Pashë Tepelena, who made it the mosque of his palace.
The exact period of the cemetery’s establishment is unknown, but it can be assumed that the cemetery of the Romaniot and Sephardi Jews emerged in the 19th century.
The Aslan Pasha Mosque was built in 1618 in the Ioannina castle. The mosque replaced the church of Saint John, that had stood earlier on this place. The mosque was part of the Aslan Pasha complex, which included a medrese (Islamic school) a library and a kitchen. It currently houses the Municipal Ethnographic Museum of Ioannina.
