Klooster Church
The beautiful and intriguing remnants of what was once a double monastery dedicated to Holy Felicitas can still be seen, in the remaining hall church with a semi-circular choir. From the foundation in the 13th century the church was used by the brothers and sisters of the Benedictine monastery Germania.
About this building
In 1581, due to fierce fighting with the Spanish troops, the priory hid the valuable monastery seal in a molehill. The molehill turned out to be deeper than expected, because the seal remains lost! A wax print of the seal has been photographed and can be seen in the church.
The local committee of the Oude Groninger Kerken Foundation has made the building available for the completion of civil marriages. If desired, the church weddings can take place in the same building.
