The Basilica of San Francesco was built between 1228 and 1255. It was enlarged around 1326 and in the 15th century, gradually transforming the Romanesque building into its present Gothic structure. A fire in 1655 destroyed much of the basilica's artwork. The interior was heavily modified in the 19th century.
The church of San Donato was founded in the 12th century as a Benedictine monastery of Vallombrosian rule, dependent on the abbey of San Michele in Passignano. The Latin cross-shaped building has lost its original Romanesque forms, except for the octagonal tiburium. The interior, with a single nave, has a Baroque appearance dating from the end of the 17th century. The neo-Romanesque gabled facade is the result of a restoration (1940-1942) that erased the previous 18th-century facade.
Santa Maria in Provenzano was built between 1595 and 1604 in the Mannerist style. The church has an important role in the Palio de Siena (horse race) because it houses the image of Our Lady of Provenzano in whose honour the famous race is held every year on July 2.
The Santuario di Santa Caterina stands on the birthplace of Catherine of Siena (14th century). The sanctuary includes the Hall of the Saints (Camera della santa), the church Chiesa del Crocifisso (consecrated on 23 April 1623), the sacristy, and the oratories: Oratorio di Santa Caterina, Oratorio della Tintoria (built between 1466 and 1474), and Oratorio della Cucina.
