The Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta di Carignano is a religious building built in the 16th century. Like many Genoese churches, it was first a family chapel (belonging to the Sauli family) before becoming an abbey church and a basilica.
Built in the 13th century, the church of Santa Maria di Castello is one of the oldest places of Christian worship in Genoa and bears witness to the Romanesque style that once prevailed in the city.
Built on a former basilica site, the Cathedral of San Lorenzo was erected around 1098. Partly reworked until the seventeenth century, the church displays many styles ranging from Gothic to Mannerism.
Completed in 1125, the Gothic church of San Matteo is located in the “Molo”, the best preserved medieval district of Genoa.
