Basilica di Santa Maria dei Servi

The Basilica of Santo Stefano is a complex of seven churches, the oldest, the Church of Saints Vitale and Agricola, being built from the fourth century. Partly destroyed in the 10th century, the complex was repaired by Benedictine monks in the 11th century.

The church of San Giovanni in Monte was first mentioned in 1045, but it was enlarged in Romanesque style as early as 1286, and again modified in the 15th century. The bell tower dates from the 13th century, while the octagonal lantern dates from 1496 and is the work of Domenico Balatino. The façade, dating from 1474, was designed by Domenico Berardi and restored in 1914.

The Basilica of Santi Bartolomeo e Gaetano is a Renaissance church built between 1516 and 1694 on top of an ancient church from the 5th century. In 1516, the architect Andrea Marchesi was commissioned to build the present building. The project, which is detailed in the outer portico of the complex, was interrupted at his death. In 1599, the church came under the direction of the Theatines, who completed the construction in the 17th century under the direction of Giovanni Battista Natali and Agostino Barelli.
