Cappella dei Bianchi

The Cappella dei Bianchi (Chapel of the Whites) is located in the 16th-century Basilica of San Severo and has recently gained notoriety following the display of the sculpture "The Veiled Son" of the Italian artist Jago.

About this building

The chapel has been home since 2019 to the celebrated Figlio Velato (Veiled Son) by Jago, an Italian artist based in New York. Jago took inspiration from the famous Veiled Christ, sculpted in 1753 by Giuseppe Sammartino, but set the scene in a contemporary context. Both sculptures were carved from a single block of marble.

The Cappella dei Bianchi is also worth a visit for the selection of paintings by famous Neapolitan painters (Andrea Vaccaro, Luca Giordano and Francesco Fracanzano) on display.

Chiesa di Santa Maria dei Miracoli

The construction of the church of Santa Maria dei Miracoli began in the 17th century, at the same time as the convent of the same name, which was founded and assigned to the Reformed conventual Fathers of San Lorenzo. A restoration programme was carried out under the direction of Francesco Antonio Picchiatti (1662-65), with the collaboration of Cosimo Fanzago and Domenico Tango. The monastery, which after the unification of Italy was named after Princess Maria Clotilde of Savoy, now houses a public school.
