About this building
The chapel of the castle Montabon is located in Noyen-sur-Sarthe in the Pays de Loire. Built in the 17th century, it is the only remaining element of the original seigniorial estate of Montabon. It is traditionally considered a chapel, even if the archives mention it several times as purely a family oratory.
In the 19th century, the castle and its outbuildings were destroyed and subsequently rebuilt. The chapel, which was probably part of another identical pavilion surrounding the old castle was probably used as a carpentry at that time. Following the reconstruction, the building seems to have lost a steeple that has not been rebuilt.
The Montabon estate and its chapel have been fully restored by the current owners. It is a square building, with a choir with a flat chevet that is vaulted with ogives and lit by three windows.
