The church of Santi Apostoli is also called locally "Vecchio Duomo di Firenze" because of its importance in the history of Florence. The building was built from the 11th century and is one of the oldest in Florence.
Santa Trinita is a parish church and the monastic church of the Vallombrosan monastery of the same name. It was founded in the 11th century and rebuilt in the 14th century in its present Gothic form. The crypt, a remnant of the old church, is purely Romanesque. The façade of Santa Trinita de Buontalenti is a typical work of late Florentine mannerism and dates from the end of the 16th century.
The cathedral, named in honor of Santa Maria del Fiore, also known as the Duomo, is one of the most remarkable symbols of the city of Florence. The vast Gothic structure was built on the site of the 7th century church of Santa Reparata, the remains of which can be seen in the crypt. The magnificent dome was designed by Filippo Brunelleschi and the more recent multicolor façade was completed in 1887 in the neo-Gothic style.
