Chișinău Central Synagogue

The Chabad Lubavitch Central Synagogue was built in 1896-1898 by the architect Tsalel Gershevich Ginger. It is also known as the "Synagogue of the glassmakers".

About this building

In 1964, the local authorities ordered the closure of all synagogues except this one, which remained the only active place of worship for the Jewish community for more than 40 years. The synagogue complex includes the building and the mikveh. It is now run by the Chabad-Lubavitch Hasidic movement.
