Church of the Holy Saviour, Prizren

The Church of the Holy Saviour is a 14th-century Orthodox church. The medieval church is surrounded by the walls of what was to be a larger church that would encapsulate the old one. However, work on the second church was never completed.

About this building

The church belonged to the nearby monastery of Holy Archangels. From 1836 to 1912, the Cincar community took over the church which had belonged until then to the Serbs. The Cincars started the construction of a larger church around the medieval one, with the intention to build the largest church in Prizren. The construction of this church was left incomplete, resulting in the unusual complex that can be seen today.
