The Church of Our Lady of Plomion is a fortified church located in Thiérache du Centre, whose foundations date from the 12th-13th centuries. It is located at the heart of the line of defence of the Kingdom of France, marked by the wars of religion.
The Church of Notre-Dame de Plomion is the result of an architecture doubly constrained by religious edification and military defence: dungeon, turrets, arrowslits, watchtowers, etc…
Dating from the 12th century, the building was rebuilt in its entirety during the first half of the 17th century, the choir and the nave around 1620-30, according to a scientific measurement and dating campaign undertaken in 1978.
During the 16th and 17th centuries, the church, defended by a keep and two imposing towers, was the refuge of the villagers, harassed and pillaged by passing regiments.
Former collegiate church whose choir dates from the end of the 13th century, the transept from the 14th century and the walls of the nave from the 17th century. It is one of the fortified churches of Thiérache.
