Church of Our Lady of the Incarnation, Lisbon

The Church of Our Lady of the Incarnation or Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Encarnação is an 18th-century Catholic church in Lisbon.

About this building

The reconstruction of the church after the Lisbon Earthquake of 1755 was not completed until 1873. The façade of the current building combines late Baroque and Neoclassical elements, such Corinthian columns that belonged to the original church destroyed during the earthquake and the triangular pediment that crowns the façade.

The interior consists of asingle nave with four small chapels on the sides. The ceiling was painted by by Simon Caetano Nunes. The church houses a sculpture of Our Lady of the Incarnation made by renowned Portuguese sculptor Machado de Castro.
