Church of Saint-Martin d'Hallines

The Church of Saint-Martin d'Hallines is a small cathedral which at first sight seems to have come from the Middle Ages. Yet it was built in the 19th century by the architect Clovis Normand, a disciple of Viollet-le-Duc, and uses all the elements of the Gothic style.

About this building

Inside the building, the height of the vaulting is impressive, the decoration is sober and majestic, and bears witness to the competence of the different local companies who worked on the construction of the church.

Church of Saint-Omer

The Church of Saint-Omer church is located in Setques, in the Hauts-de-France region. The Gothic style building reflects the high monuments after the wars of the sixteenth century. The flat chevet of the choir and the lower level of the tower date from the late sixteenth or early seventeenth century. In the 18th century, restorations were made, as the church was rebuilt in 1863, on the same foundations, but with buttresses.

Church of Saint-Maurice, Leulinghem

Church of Saint-Maurice is in the centre of the village, at the junction of five roads, and has two volumes of different heights. The lower one is the nave ; the other, higher and with no buttresses, with the air of a massive keep, has, in its lower level, a sanctuary which is perhaps Romanesque.

Notre-Dame de Saint-Omer Church

Construction started in 1052. The work was not completed until 1486 with the erection of the spire of the transept crossing. The cathedral was closed to worship during the French Revolution: it was then transformed into a fodder store. Unlike many churches in France, it did not suffer from vandalism, looting or destruction.
