The Leikanger church is a stone church dating from around 1250. Around 1872, a lower and narrower choir was built, with a sacristy to the north-east. At the same time, the 17th-century tower was replaced by a new tower in neo-gothic style. When the church was restored in the years 1930-50 under the direction of architect Johan Lindstrøm, the 19th-century tower was demolished and replaced by a modern tower.
