The neo-Gothic Catholic church of St. Peter was consecrated in 1898. In June 2007, St. Peter's drew the attention of the country because of a fire in his roof, which was completely destroyed. In February 2011, the church was reopened.

St. Peter and Paul's Cathedral was founded in 1165 as a Romanesque cathedral. Around 1295, its extension in Flamboyant Gothic style began, which allowed the cathedral to be transformed into a hall church. It was only with the completion of the vaulting of the nave and the east building that the Gothic conversion was completed from 1426 to around 1460.

St. Peter's Basilica is the cocathedral of the diocese of Augsburg and a necropolis of the bishops of Augsburg. In 1498, the Prince-Bishop of Augsburg, Frederick II of Zollern, had a collegiate church built dedicated to the Apostle Peter. It was secularised with the Imperial Recess of 1803. The collegiate church then became a simple parish church. The church was given the rank of minor basilica in 1979.

St. Peter's Cathedral is the first and largest of the shared churches in Germany. In 1213, Bishop Bruno II established a collegiate chapter there. The building took on its present appearance around 1430, when the late Gothic hall church was extended to the south by a fourth nave. The interior was redecorated in Baroque taste after the town fire in 1634, which also affected the church. In 1664, the bell tower was raised by a Baroque spire. After long quarrels and discussions between Catholics and Lutherans, the council of provosts of the town decides according to an edict of 1543 which regulates the use of the church for both communities.

The St. Peter's Church was first mentioned in a document in 1170. The church underwent several alterations and only received its present appearance in the 15th century. During the Second World War, the church lost its roof and spire helmet but also burned out completely inside. Only in the sixties the first safety measures were taken and in 1987 the church was completely restored.

Founded in the 13th century, St. Peter's Church burned down several times with the town in 1512, 1628 and 1713. It was during its reconstruction in the 18th century that the tower took on an octagonal shape. In 1920, a lightning strike caused a fire and the baroque dome of the tower collapsed. The lantern of the tower was replaced by a tent roof, which was intended as a temporary solution, but which still gives the church its typical appearance today.

The Peterskirche is an Evangelical Lutheran church built in 1882-1885 in neo-Gothic style. The nave is now used, in addition to worship services, for various concerts, theatrical performances, exhibitions and conferences.

The church of St. Remigius is a Gothic basilica with three naves whose construction was begun in 1274 / 1275 by the Franciscan order. In 1689, the church was severely damaged by bombing by Brandenburg troops, and the roof of the church and its ridge turret burned down. The Franciscans repaired the roof and restored the interior in the years 1738-1748. The monastery was secularized and abolished in 1803.
