De Antenne

Dedemsvaart, NL

When the Reformed Church in Dedemsvaart felt compelled to build a new church in 1995, the architect GERRITSMA from Assen was asked to incorporate two facets. On the one hand, the building had to become the home - as the centre of church life - for the congregation. On the other hand, it had to be clearly recognisable as a church that is aware of its place in society - albeit not dominant, but modest. After extensive discussions, it was decided to create a space with a light character, but also with the privacy of round walls that envelop the congregation. Small openings provide a window on the world. The indirect daylight and the circular lines in the walls strengthen the feeling of intimacy and solidarity. At one point, the enveloping wall breaks open and only the structural frame remains, the facade gives way to make room for the light that falls from above.

De Ark

Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht, NL

In January 2005, construction began for the Centrum district on a new PKN church (formerly NH) on the corner of Krommeweg/Laan van Welhorst. The Centrum district started in the De Schoof school. That was demolished and the De Schoof shopping centre is now located there. After that, the GK could be used until it grew so much that double services were held and there was no more room for the Centrum district. The Centrum district now holds church services in the Dorpskerk. The new church is expected to be ready in January 2006. Then the Dorp district can once again use the Dorpskerk entirely and the Centrum district will have its own church.

De Ark

Oosterland, NL

The Reformed Church of Oosterland was founded around 1919 when a majority of the members left the Reformed Church. The church was instituted on 12 May 1919. The worker's house with barn, purchased in 1846 and furnished as a church building, was demolished in 1917, after which a new church building was built with 200 seats. In 1980, the church building was expanded with a side wing, bringing the number of seats to 350. In 2014, a house and shop were demolished against the church to make room for the construction of the building De Ark for the youth of this church.
