The monastery of Santa Chiara of the Clare nuns, with its church, was founded in 1490. During the 16th and 17th centuries, the monastic complex underwent further extensions and embellishments. In 1694, the church, as it is visible in its present form, was completed. In 1798, the religious complex was suppressed by Napoleon, but the enclosure was officially restored in 1817 after the Restoration of 1815. In 1845, the church was rebuilt in neoclassical style, although the interior retains its Renaissance architectural layout. The façade has a simple plan with two statues in niches. The church contains works by B. Rossi and Luigi Asioli, a Nativity by Giulio Francia and Giacomo Francia, and a Madonna di Soriano of 1639 by Giovanni Maria Botalla.

The monastery of Santa Maria in Valle Christi was a 13th-century monastic complex built for a community of Cistercian nuns who flourished there for almost three hundred years. Replaced by nuns of the Order of St. Clare in the early 16th century, the monastery again went into decline and after a few decades, in 1572, it was abolished.
