A lovely village church with interesting features to be discovered including early 14th century stained glass depicting three medieval family shields of the Percy, Umfraville and Beaumont families. The yellow silver stain used in this stained glass is quite indicative of its very early age.

The tall, graceful spire is visible for miles around. It was used by sailors and others returning by boat along the river Great Ouse to the port of St Ives as a welcoming landmark, and it may even have had a lit beacon to aid their way. Lying on the Via Devana, the Roman road that linked the army camps at Godmanchester and Cambridge, Fenstanton was the site of a Roman villa. It is also in the Domesday Book.

St Peter & St Paul is on the east coast of Suffolk and looks out to sea. It is rich in history, and there is a magnificent window by John Piper in memory of Benjamin Britten. The tower is the oldest part of the church, and it is such a notable local landmark hat it was used for many years by mariners to pilot their ships.

The church features throughout the history of West Mersea. It is believed that the first church was built on Roman foundations in the late 7th or early 8th century. It was rebuilt in the mid 10th century and the base of the tower probably dates from then. The chancel and nave were possibly rebuilt in 14th century. It is made up of ragstone, septaria, Roman and later brick with limestone dressing, brick and Roman tile.

Nicholas Leache, rector of Belchford in 1536, was one of the ringleaders in the Lincolnshire Rising in which 3,000 people marched through the county to protest against closure of the monasteries by Henry VIII. After the Rising had been quashed Nicholas Leache along with others was hanged, drawn and quartered at Tyburn for treason.

Pickering's parish church is famous for its stunning medieval wall paintings. Painted originally about 1450 but covered over at the Reformation, these were rediscovered in 1852, but then painted over again! They were finally restored and today their vibrant images thrill visitors with how medieval churches once looked.

St Peter ad Vincula Church in Ratley (Banbury) is known for its medieval architecture, particularly its medieval preaching cross and the four different window styles.

St Peter and St John the Baptist at Wivelsfield was earlier a chapelry of Ditchling and only separated after the reformation. The nave, dating back to the 11th century, is said to be related to those at Bolney and Stoham in West Sussex. The south aisle has a two-bay arcade with chamfered arches and a squat round pier. Two of the north windows have been lost; one with mullions and one with sashes.
