Vassås church is an octagonal wooden church dating from 1733. Around 1900 it was built in such a bad condition that in 1913 it was dismantled and completely rebuilt.

The church of Vassås was built around 1200. When it was rebuilt in 1846, the church hall was given galleries along the west and north walls, but the north was demolished in 1905. The hexagonal pulpit from 1588 is one of the oldest in Vestfold.

Vasto Cathedral was built in the 13th century. All that remains of the old medieval church dedicated to Santa Margherita is the façade with its 14th century portal and rose windows. In the 17th century it was dedicated to Saint Augustine and in 1808 to Saint Joseph. It was raised to the rank of cathedral in 1853.

The church was designed by William Klein, the city architect of Malmö. The lower part of the tower and parts of the western wall remain from the medieval church.
