It was first mentioned in 1196 when Henry of Saxony (son of Henry the Lion) gave the patronage of the church to the monastery Homburg. First construction measures are documented in 1394 (so-called " Gothic") They were probably carried out by the same construction hut as the extensions of St.Marien in Muhlhausen ( Visible, among other things, by the stonemason signs and the division of the relay gable on the south side ( show side to the city) ) The main portal of the church also dates from that time (1394). Berlin Cathedral is a protestant church founded in the 16th century. The present building is a third reconstruction in the neo-Renaissance and neo-Baroque styles dating from between 1894 and 1905. Badly damaged during the Second World War, the exterior of the cathedral was simplified during a renovation completed in 1984 and, until 2002, it was rebuilt inside in keeping with the original. The Hohenzollern Crypt, located beneath the cathedral, is one of the most important dynastic tombs in Europe.

The church of Bernitter is a building of field stone and brick built in the 13th century. The choir is older than the nave and dates from about 1240, while the nave was added about 40 years later. The church tower dates from the 15th century. The church in Bernitter is one of the few churches in Mecklenburg from the 13th century, which the Reformation apparently left untouched. The large bronze bell of the church in Bernitter has also been spared by history, as it was not melted down as part of the metal donation during the Second World War.

Braunschweig Cathedral was founded in 1173 by Henry the Lion. The building most probably received the designation "cathedral" as early as the 14th or 15th century. However, it was not so much a bishop's church as a monastery. Until the 19th century, Braunschweig Cathedral was therefore known as the Collegiate Church of St. Blasius and St. John the Baptist, which is still partly in use today.

Brauweiler Abbey is a former Benedictine abbey, founded in the 11th century by Poppo de Stavelot (977 - 1048) on the orders of the Count Palatine of Lotharingia Ezzo (955 - 1034). The monastery was dissolved during secularization in 1802. The monastery then had many uses as a labour and correctional institution, Gestapo prison and psychiatric clinic. It was not until 1988 that the former monastery became the present cultural and service centre of the LVR. Brauweiler Abbey is one of the largest Romanesque church buildings in the Rhineland.
