The present Holy Trinity Church is probably the third on this site. The oldest part of the church is the sacristy, which was built at the end of the 13th century against an earlier wooden church. In the 14th century, the present three-aisled basilica was built of stone in the lower parts and brick in the upper parts. In the late Middle Ages, perhaps in the 15th century, the sturdy but low church tower was added. The high medieval spire was destroyed in the town fire of 1702 and was later replaced by a hood. The north and south transepts date from the 15th century.
