The Nemėžis Mosque is a Tartar mosque first built in 1684. The present mosque, built in 1909, suffered much neglect during the Soviet era. In 1978 the mosque was returned to the Muslim community and from 1993 it was repaired.

This particular building was chosen because of its art-nouveau architecture which included several "moorish" elements and already faced towards Mecca. The mosque was financed by several individuals and goups, most notably Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the former leader of the UAE.

The mosque was built in the middle of the 19th century , probably by Bulgarian masters. It has a large prayer room measuring 14 by 14.8 meters. Four free columns in the center hold a rammed drum topped with a wooden dome . The arched vestibule has a second floor for women. The minaret has a spiral brick decoration. The exterior and the interior of the mosque are richly painted with ornaments by painters from the Samokov school .

Aslan Pasha Mosque, probably built in the first half of the 17th century, is a mosque at the edge of lake Ioannina. The mosque was part of the Aslan Pasha complex, which included a medrese (Islamic school) a library and a kitchen. It currently houses the Municipal Ethnographic Museum of Ioannina.
