The Mezquita-Catedral de Córdoba was founded in 786, at the time, the second largest mosque behind the mosque of Mecca. In 1238, after the Christian reconquest of the city, the building was consecrated as a cathedral. Today, the whole is the most important monument of Cordoba. It is one of the 12 treasures of Spain and a UNESCO site.

The Aljama Mosque, built between 941 and 945, is part of the ruins of the Medina Azahara, an ancient city of the Caliphate of Cordoba (929-1031) classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The building is rectangular in shape, about 25 metres long and 18 metres wide. Its plan reveals a division into two main parts, the prayer hall and the ablution yard. The minaret is square on the outside and octagonal on the inside, located next to the north gate at the entrance to the courtyard.

The architecture combies traditional handcrafts with modern technologies of movable modules, for example, the patio's wooden ceiling can be removed when the daytime is bright to let in natual lighting.

Valide Tzami mosque was built in 1615 and is one of the oldest mosques on the island of Lesbos. It still preserves its minaret made of red stone quarried in Ayvalik, although the upper part of the minaret has been lost. In the past, the interior was decorated with colourful frescoes and the ceiling was embellished with stucco. It also had a front courtyard paved with stone and a marble fountain decorated with engraved arabesques and accessed by marble stairs. It is a protected monument since 1981, though it hasn't been restored.

Sultan Eyüp's Mosque was founded in 1458-59 and rebuilt in 1800. The minarets of the mosque, which were repaired several times after 1458, were replaced by new long minarets in 1733. The minaret on the sea side was rebuilt in 1823 because it was damaged by lightning.
