Laleli Mosque

The Laleli Mosque, built between 1760 and 1763, was destroyed by fire in 1783 and rebuilt immediately afterwards. Most of the original complex, of which the mosque was a part, was destroyed by fire (1911) and due to urban planning decisions. The granite and marble mosque has a Baroque style.

The Teşvikiye mosque was built in 1794 at the instigation of Sultan Selim III (1789-1807), but most of the present mosque dates from the reign of Sultan Abdulmejid I (1839-1861) and was completed in 1854. The mosque is part of a group of buildings built at the same time in a strong European style, such as the Dolmabahçe Palace and the Mosque of Ortaköy. At the end of the 19th century it was renovated to its present appearance.

The Süleymaniye Mosque is an Ottoman imperial mosque located on the Third Hill of Istanbul, Turkey. The mosque was commissioned by Suleiman the Magnificent and designed by the imperial architect Mimar Sinan. An inscription specifies the foundation date as 1550 and the inauguration date as 1557. The mosque was built by the Ottoman sultan Suleyman and the mosque was named after him. The mosque is located at the highest end of the city of Istanbul.

Sultan Ahmed Mosque (also known as the Blue Mosque) is a historic mosque located in Istanbul, Turkey. It remains a functioning mosque, while also attracting large numbers of tourist visitors. It was constructed between 1609 and 1616 during the rule of Ahmed I. Its Külliye contains Ahmed's tomb, a madrasah and a hospice. Hand-painted blue tiles adorn the mosque’s interior walls, and at night the mosque is bathed in blue as lights frame the mosque’s five main domes, six minarets and eight secondary domes.

The Şakirin mosque is one of the most modern in Istanbul, having opened its doors in 2009. The building was designed by Hüsrev Tayla, known for his work on the Kocatepe Mosque. The interior was designed by Zeynep Fadillioğlu, making Şakirin the first mosque partially designed by a woman.

The Küçük Hasan Pasha Mosque dates from the second half of the 17th century. It was built in honour of the first Ottoman garrison of Chania. The mosque stopped functioning in 1923 and is now restored to become a venue.
