Montsalvy, FR

The church of Montsalvy, which depended on the abbey of Saint Géraud d'Aurillac, dates from the second half of the 11th century. It is the main vestige of what was in the Middle Ages one of the most important abbeys of the region which still surprises us by its unusual dimensions.

Chapel of Notre Dame, Rocamadour

Building mentioned as early as the 12th century, but the first chapel was destroyed by a rock that fell from the cliff in the 15th century. The site will be entirely restored because of its dilapidated state in the 19th century.

Collégiale de Villefranche-de-Rouergue

Villefranche-de-Rouergue, FR

The building dates from the 13th century, in 1252, after the medieval basilica was transferred to the other side of the bank. The revolution spared the church, which was transformed first into the Temple of the Supreme Being, then into a fodder store. The bell tower is saved from demolition by placing a statue of the goddess at its top.

Notre Dame de France

Notre Dame de France

Soho, GB

Built for the London French community in 1953-55 from designs by Professor Hector Corfiato, the circular design of the church repeats the form of two previous buildings on the site, a diorama of the 1790s and a church of the 1860s by LA Boileau. Corfiato's church is important as an advanced design showing the influence of the Liturgical Movement, and as a showcase of Art Sacre, notably the murals in the Lady Chapel by Jean Cocteau.

Notre-Dame Basilica

Notre-Dame Basilica

Pontmain, FR

A high place of Christian pilgrimage, the sanctuary of Pontmain, in Mayenne, came into being following the apparition of the Virgin Mary to the children of the village on 17 January 1871. The imposing neo-gothic style basilica, built in the 19th century near the site of the apparition, houses in its choir beautiful stained glass windows illustrating the Virgin's apparitions in Pontmain, Lourdes and La Salette, as well as scenes from the life of Christ. The Barbedette barn, from which the children saw the Blessed Virgin in 1871, has been converted into a place of prayer and meditation.

Church of Notre-Dame

Church of Notre-Dame

Vitré, FR

The new glass building has a remarkable architectural asset: it is a link between the Flamboyant Gothic and Renaissance styles. This transition from one style to the other is very visible on the south façade. This one also has a rarity: a beautiful pulpit to preach outside where the preachers of the Counter-Reformation could unleash themselves against the Huguenots... installed in the building opposite, across the street!

Church of Our Lady of Auzils

Church of Our Lady of Auzils

Gruissan , FR

The name "Lady of Auzils" was given in 1223, when the monks of Boulboune, in Ariège, bought the priory. The current chapel seems to have been built in 1635. Since then, it has been renovated and consolidated many times. The choir of the Church is built above the Saint-Salvaire cave.

Church of Notre Dame du Cap Lihou

Church of Notre Dame du Cap Lihou

Granville, FR

The church of Notre Dame du Cap Lihou was built between 1628 and 1771 on top of an old granite chapel from the 11th century. After taking possession of Cap Lihou, the English built a church in 1440, together with the fortress. The granite was brought from Chausey in barges. The bell tower and the bays between the transept and the choir date from this period.
