Great Synagogue

The Great Synagogue of Sharhorod was constructed in 1589 making it one of the oldest synagogues in Ukraine. It was built as a fortress synagogue with 1 to 2 m thick walls. Between 1674 and 1699 it was occupied by Turks and used as a mosque. Restoration work on the synagogue was completed in 2012.

Cathedral of the Holy Transfiguration

The Cathedral of the Holy Transfiguration, originally a Dominican church built at the end of the 18th century on top of a wooden Dominican church of 1624. In 1817, the tsarist authorities closed the Dominican monastery and handed the premises over to the Orthodox. The architect of this Baroque church was a native of northern Italy.
