Grijps Church
As the ministers of the Mennonite congregation in Pieterzijl preferred to live in Grijpskerk, in 1890 a presbytery was built on the Herestraat in Grijpskerk.
About this building
After the presbytery was built it was also decided to move the church to Grijpskerk: that was easier for preachers and churchgoers. The whole building was not transferred: it was mainly valuable parts, such as the two chandeliers from 1791, the office bearer's benches, and the facing brick.
It is the best hidden church in the province of Groningen, this simple hall church, with walls built in red brick. The facades are remarkably symmetrical. After a thorough restoration, in collaboration with the municipality of Zuidhorn, the Stichting Oude Groninger Kerken and the funeral society "De Laatste Eer", the building has been in use as an auditorium since 9 November 1995.
