Holmen Church

The Holmen church dates from 1853. The basis of the construction is the drawings of the church in Bamble, which were designed by Gustav Adolph Lammers. The church replaced a reconstructed stave church which was about 500 metres east of the presbytery. The stave church was demolished in 1855, but the old cemetery was used until 1890 when a new cemetery was opened. The funeral chapel dates from 1935.

The year of construction of the church cannot be determined exactly, as the church accounts are not preserved. Based on information from the parish priest Bernhoft in 1745 and the inscriptions on the church and its furnishings, the date of construction has been fixed at around 1660.
