Igreja de Santo Estêvão

The Igreja de Santo Estêvão is a church founded in the 12th century and rebuilt in the 18th century in the Alfama district of Lisbon. The terrace in front of the church offers a wonderful viewpoint over the Tagus River.

About this building

The church is located in Lisbon's oldest quarter. At the beginning of the 18th century, the church was rebuilt in the Baroque style in vogue at that time.During the Lisbon earthquake of 1755, the building lost one of its towers. The reconstruction after the earthquake was led by architect Manuel da Costa Negreiros.
