Islam-aga's Mosque, Niš
Islam-aga's Mosque is the only active Mosque in Niš. It has a rectangular plan and a flat wooden ceiling. It is protected as a cultural monument due to its historic and religious importance in the city.
About this building
The first Islam-aga's Mosque was built in 1720. In times of the Ottoman Empire, there were around twenty mosques in Niš. The Islam-aga's Mosque was reconstructed in 1870, being the last Ottoman building erected in the city before the departure of the Turks. In 2004, it was heavily damaged by riots in the city. It was reconstructed for the last time in 2013.
