Church Beerta
A late Gothic church, but without frivolous tracery in the windows: no passes or blowing fish. It was completed in 1506 as a rectangular hall church. Inside, the church has a renaissance pulpit, the organ from 1862 and the carved tombstones.
About this building
Thanks to the higher location, the church was a refuge for a small number of people during the Saint-Martin flood of 1668. In 1783 the stone overgrove was near collapse and was replaced by a wooden barrel vault. A detached tower completed the building in 1806.
In 2004 the church was officially handed over to the Local Commission Beerta of the Stichting Oude Groninger Kerken. Since December 2011 the management has been transferred to Dorpsbelangen Beerta. The church can be rented by third parties for concerts, lectures, exhibitions, receptions, farewell and other gatherings. The church is one of the municipal wedding locations.
