Church Niebert

A beautifully located white hall church on a raised cemetery that was built at the end of the 14th century by order of the abbot of Aduard.

About this building

The roof turret is younger that the rest of the building; it was added in the 18th century and renewed in 1831.

The interior has a green painted flat beam ceiling that was created through the labour of the Groninger sculptor Caspar Struiwig. In the church, in addition to a beautifully carved pulpit, there is a lot of fine carving on the men's benches. The heavy supper table comes from the Iwema Steenhuis.

The church of Niebert is the starting point for Het Kale Jonkerpad, a walking route through the area, on which the Jonker takes you on a route through his life. The walker starts in the consistory room of the church where a route description is available.
