Saaxumhuizen Church

The church of Saaxumhuizen has sadly lost its medieval character through various renovations and repairs. The church nowadays has mainly 19th century features. The current tower has replaced a free-standing, low, obtuse tower.

About this building

The beautiful gentlemen's banks are due to collator Jonker Geurt Goosen Alberda, as he commissioned the well-known wood carver, Anthonie Wallis, to provide the men's banks with a magnificent crowning. This decoration was sadly stolen many years later. The church tower is open to everyone. After a steep climb, visitors are rewarded with a beautiful view of the Hogeland.

Doopsgezinde Kerk

In 1819, the Mennonite communities of Obergum, Rasquert and Den Hoorn founded a new church in Mensingeweer. But when the province of Groningen planned a road in the fifties of the 20th century on the site of the church building and parsonage, they moved to Eenrum where a new church building was built on the J.J.Willingestraat. The name of the community then became: "Mennonite community of Mensingeweer in Eenrum".
