Kräklingbo Church
Kräklingbo Church is one of the 92 medieval churches on the island of Gotland.
About this building
Most of the present church was built in the 13th century, even though the foundation took place in the 1211. From this earlier church only the chancel and its square nave. The plans to erect a tower were never completed, so instead of a tower, Kräklingbo Church displays a spire that was rebuilt during the restoration that took place in the 19th century.
The main portals of the church are richly decorated with sculptures depicting floral motifs and Biblical scenes. In its interior preserves a Romanesque rood cross (13th century), a Baroque Baptismal font (17th century). It also houses a medieval altarpiece made in Gotland in the 16th century.
