Loukrounou Mosque

The mosque was originally located in the southern area of the village centre. Today the village is located at the Evretou Dam, which was opened in 1986. When the dam is completely filled, the foundations of the mosque built on the slope are already in the water.

The mosque is located in the centre of the original village. Not much is known about the history of the current mosque. According to Bağişkan, there was already evidence of a mosque on this site from the 1810s. It is not known when the current mosque was built. However, major renovations were carried out in the 1930s. The earthquake of 1953 also caused damage, but it does not seem to have been as severe as other mosques in the Paphos district.

The Dede Sipahi Mosque is centrally located in the old settlement area. The mosque as well as the school right next door seem to have been built around 1910 at about the same time. The mosque was thus a successor to a mosque that had already been built on the same site in Ottoman times.
