About this building

Also known as the monastery of the Holy Theotokos, Paleokastritsa stands on the edge of a cliff overlooking the sea. It was built after the finding of the icon of the Holy Theotokos or Virgin Mary. The monastery was destroyed by the Turks and rebuilt in 1572. Since then it has had different uses and undergone several restorations.

Access to the monastery is via a steep path from the beach.
