Monestir de Sant Miquel del Fai

The Monastery of Sant Miquel del Fai was founded by Gombau de Besora, lord of the nearby castle of Montbui, in the 11th century. The monastery is located in a stunning natural environment, surrounded by caves and waterfalls.

About this building

In 1042, the founder himself united the monastery of Sant Miquel to that of Saint Victor of Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône) , and from that moment on it became a priory dependent on the Provençal abbey. In 1567 it was secularised and the place passed into the hands of the bishopric of Girona, which looked after it and maintained the priory, at least nominally, until 1832. It was expropriated in 1835 and passed into private hands. In modern times, the place became a tourist attraction thanks to its location, in a unique setting.

Monastery of Santa Maria de l'Estany

There is evidence of the existence of a church in this place since 990, and like others in this territory. The architectural complex of Santa Maria de l'Estany, which was restored in the 19th century, is made up of the church, the cloister and various outbuildings that are located around the latter, where there is now a museum.
