Rijeka Mosque
The Islamic Centre and Mosque of Rijke opened in 2013. The building was designed by Croatian sculptor Dušan Džamonja in cooperation with Branko Vučinović and Darko Vlahović. The mosque has been described as a masterpiece of contemporary mosque architecture.
About this building
The mosque construction project began to take shape in the 1960s, in response to the need to provide the Bosnian and Albanian Muslim community that arrived in Rijeka after World War II with a place for prayer.
The building consists of a monumental sphere clad in stainless steel, divided into six spherical sections. The prayer hall can accommodate up to 1,400 worshippers.
