About this building
The oldest grave in the cemetery dates from 1685. It was inaugurated as a cemetery for military officers, although the burial of military personnel of all ranks was soon permitted. A section of the cemetery is dedicated to 185 soldiers of the First and Second World War who died in combat.
The current owner of the cemetery is the city of Hamelin. The site has been protected as a national monument since 1987.
