Bali-Bey Mosque is a former Ottoman place of worship located in the Niš Fortress. It was built between 1521-23. Following the model of Ottoman mosques of the period, it is rectangular in plan, with a porch at the entrance and a central dome crowning the building.
The Synagogue in Niš is a Sephardi synagogue built in 1924 by architects Milan Kapetanović, Viktor Azriel and Jaša Albala. This Modernist brick synagogue now serves as an art centre.
Nis Cathedral Church, founded in 1878, is the largest cathedral in Serbia. Nis Cathedral, both in its architecture and in the icons made for its iconostasis, occupies an important place in the history of Serbian art. Different styles can be seen on the church: Serbian-Byzantine, Romano-Byzantine and Islamic, but also Renaissance and Baroque. The Nis Cathedral was severely damaged by Allied bombing in 1944 and by a fire in 2001. It was reconsecrated in 2006.
This chapel in Nis is well known for what is housed inside its walls. The skull tower of Nis is one of Nis's biggest tourist attractions. The tower was built by the Ottoman administration after a failed Serb rebellion in the early 19th century. Upon Serbia's independence in 1878, a chapel was placed around the tower to commemorate the fallen patriots. Rennovations to the chapel occured numerous times, most recently being in 1989.
