Chiesa di San Severo al Pendino, Naples

Church of San Severo al Pendino is a 17th-century Mannerist church that now serves as a cultural venue.

About this building

The church was founded in 1448. It was rebuilt between 1599 and 1620  after being granted to the Dominicans who had established their monastery at the nearby Palazzo Como. At the beginning of the 19th century,  San Severo al Pendino was used as the headquarters of the State Archive of Naples. It briefly recovered its religious function in the second half of the 19th century, but only until 1863 when the religious community was dissolved. In the following decades it would be used for storage. The church was damaged by the 1980 earthquake and restored after it.
