Arsani Monastery is an active place of worship located 11 km east of Rethymno.
It was founded in the 16th century and survived the many assaults of the Ottomans until the beginning of the 20th century. In 1903 the monastery was reestablished and has been active until now. The monastic complex includes the catholicon dedicated to Saint George, a museum and a conference centre.
The church of St. Demetrios near Ano Viranepiskopi is a three-aisled Byzantine basilica with a domed chapel on its southern side.
The church of Zoodochos Pigi (Life Giving Spring) was part of a monastery founded in the 16th century.
