About this building
Originally a Christian church, this structure was converted into a mosque after the Ottoman takeover (1592-93). The minaret was originally built in the 19th century. Lightning strikes caused damage to the overall structure in the 1880s. The minaret had to be completely demolished and was rebuilt in 1900.
