Malia Mosque
The first mosque of Malia, which stood on the same site as the current mosque, already existed in the 19th century.
About this building
A major renovation and expansion of the mosque, which had become too small, took place at the beginning of the 20th century. The extension and the construction of the minaret were completed at the beginning of 1908.At the beginning of the 1950s, the structural condition of the mosque had deteriorated considerably due to external influences and the building even threatened to collapse. From May to September 1953, the old mosque was then demolished and replaced by a new building on the same site. The minaret was repaired and, according to sources, shortened by about 2m in height.
