Heilige Catharina

The oldest church in Buchten dates from the 13th century and was built in Romanesque style. The parish itself was much older. This church fell into such disrepair at the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th century that replacement was deemed necessary. In several phases between 1833 and 1837, a new brick church was built in neoclassical style to a design by architect/contractor Beugels from Oirsbeek. The 13th-century Romanesque tower was preserved.

It is a misconception that the chapel was a Dutch Reformed chapel. The Roman Catholic chapel / auxiliary church of Our Lady of the Rosary at Illikhoven 67 was built in 1947 to a design by the architectural firm Swinkels and Salemans.
