Heilige Brigida

HH Maria Brigida. 1889-1891 Ch. Weber. Three-aisled cruciform basilica with a cloverleaf-shaped east section, dominated by a massive dome tower above the octagonal crossing. High towers on either side of the front facade. Largely brick-built interpretation of the 13th century Romanesque-Gothic style. Pillars with ringed colonnettes, cross-ribbed vaults and exuberant use of brick in various colours. Important work from Weber's second period. Organ from 1894-96 in two parts on either side of the rose window. The organ case was made by J. Custers, the instrument by FC Smits jr. Smits used the old instrument from the previous church, which was made in 1849 by JJ Vollebregt. In 1927 the organ was pneumatized by Valckx and Van Kouteren and subsequently reconstructed by Flentrop in 2003, largely to the situation of 1894. The mechanical tower clock, Eijsbouts, 1943, has been decommissioned.
