The Roman Catholic St. Catherine's Church was built in 1907 to a design by the architects Joseph Cuypers (1861 - 1949) and Jan Stuyt (1868 - 1934). The applied architectural style is traditionalist. On the apse side, the church is connected to the rectory via the sacristy. This dates from after 1945. This rectory is excluded from protection.
The church replaced the previous church from 1903, which had become too small.
The oldest church in Buchten dates from the 13th century and was built in Romanesque style. The parish itself was much older. This church fell into such disrepair at the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th century that replacement was deemed necessary. In several phases between 1833 and 1837, a new brick church was built in neoclassical style to a design by architect/contractor Beugels from Oirsbeek. The 13th-century Romanesque tower was preserved.
Brick tower built in the middle of the 14th century, raised in the 16th century and provided with a constricted spire. In 1867, the current neoclassical church building was built against the remaining tower to replace the associated medieval church. It is said that the stones of the former church were used for the foundation of the new building. Inventory from the construction period.
