On 10 May 1940, 80 people lost their homes as a result of the Dutch army setting fire to all the buildings above the dike, including the church. This was to prevent the advancing Germans from firing at the Dutch lines at Ravenstein from those buildings. In this tragedy, a third of the village went up in flames. The church was not rebuilt until 1952.
The church is designed as a single-nave church with a saddle roof. The 14th-century tower has tufa in the lower layers and was raised around 1820. During this raising, the existing sound holes were bricked up and new sound holes were made with round arches. The clock from 1929 was made by the clock manufacturer Eijsbouts from Asten, who also started making clocks after the Second World War. The tower has a tent roof. The church has an organ, made in 1845 by Franciscus Cornelius Smits. In addition, there is a lowered altar from around 1700. The church was designated a national monument in 1965. This church is listed as a National Monument of the Netherlands.
The Garrison Church is the Reformed church of this fortified town. The church was built in 1641 for the Dutch garrison (although the year 1646 can be found in the Grote Poort). In 1972 the church underwent a thorough restoration. The church is owned by the municipality of Ravenstein. The square on the side is the former cemetery.
